Woodland skills for curious kids...(8-13yrs)
About the Trees regularly hosts crafty days for creative youngsters. This holiday workshop is centred on woodland skills: tool use, fire-lighting and cooking, hunting for mini-beasts, tree identification, woodland art and craft...wherever the day takes us!
Our wonderful location, based around 'the bothy' (our cosy woodland workshop), offers a unique setting suitable for all weathers. Warm space under cover, a wealth of tools and materials, and surroundings packed with mature trees and wild flowers, as well as a host of wildlife.
By nature, the forest school approach is child-led; to map out every activity would leave no room for adventure. But, as a guide, the day will likely include activities such as nature-based scavenger hunts, woodcrafts, den building, knots, fire-lighting, campfire cooking, and woodland games.
The day is led by Jonnie - a practising school teacher and forest school practitioner, who delivers weekly woodland learning sessions in his local high school, and to private groups in his work outside school. His enthusiasm is infectious, with an inclusive approach that fosters wonder and curiosity. He is a trained forest school leader and outdoor first-aider.
This session is intended for youngsters aged 8-13yrs. If you have a specific query around this, please ping us a message.
