Stool making (private group)
A course for private groups: a family, a group of pals, a team-building day for work colleagues, a celebration perhaps? The details of this course can be tailored to your requirements. The info below is provided as a guide, but please get in touch to discuss what would make the day perfect for you.
The details for a private group booking can, of course, be tailored to your group. As a guide, we'll learn the skills and techniques necessary to each make a wooden stool before the day is out. You'll select your seat from a range of slabs milled from local trees and air-dried over several years. Then spend time refining the shape, before selecting leg stock and setting-about shaping the legs. We'll learn to make round mortise and tenon joints, and assemble the parts into your finished stool.
As well as the techniques directly relating to the stool you make, you will learn about wood as a raw material and how wood is harvested and processed. Depending on time available - and your own preferences - the seat and/or legs can be given additional detail such as facets or milk paint.
It goes without saying your creation will be yours to keep. All tools needed are provided.
Tea/coffee is provided. Perhaps even a slice of cake (no promises!). Our visitors usually bring a packed lunch, but the option of a light lunch being provided can be discussed.
About the Trees provides courses for adults as well as youngsters. As a private group, it would be your decision whether your group includes one or the other, or both. We're happy to advise on the suitability of the activities for different ages and abilities - just get in touch.
