Intro to knife-craft (private group, 3hrs, adults)
Come and spend a half-day session learning the basics behind knife-craft in the tradition of sloyd; head, hands and knife - no machinery required! In this half-day course you'll be introduced to the tools, materials and techniques to get started on your journey 'whittling' - the perfect course to try before embarking on a full day of spooncarving in the future. This course is intended for beginners, as we'll start with the basics, and can cater for group sizes of up to eight participants (larger groups can be accommodated, but would need to split the available tuition time).
On the day we'll squeeze in a look at examples, knowledge and samples of wood types and where to source raw material, various tools from basic to more elaborate, and of course the hands-on techniques to get you started on your whittling journey. You should leave feeling safe, knowledgeable, inspired and hopefully relaxed from a spell in our beautiful woodland workshop.
All tools needed are provided. If you have acquired your own, you're very welcome to bring them along too. Needless to say, what you make is yours to take home.
Tea/coffee is provided.
As a private group booking, the choice of whether this is a group of adults, young people, or a mix of both is your choice. Please contact us to make sure what you have in mind is suitable before booking.
