A stool in a day! (per person, full day)
Come and make a stool in a day! Be guided through the steps of making a handmade, one-of-a-kind stool from locally milled timber. Then take it home to sit on, or maybe rest your coffee cup on. While we run the majority of our popular stool-making workshops for private groups, these sessions offer individuals the chance to book in for a workshop shared with a small number of like-minded folk.
On the day, you'll select your seat from a range of hardwood slabs milled from local trees (e.g. beech, oak, ash) which have been air-dried over several years. Then spend time refining the shape and edges, before selecting leg stock and setting-about shaping the legs. We'll learn to make round mortise and tenon joints, and assemble the parts into your finished stool. The day is good fun, but - in parts - involves some physical exertion!
As well as the woodworking techniques directly relating to the stool you make, you will learn about wood as a natural raw material, and how wood is harvested and processed.
It goes without saying your creation will be yours to take away!
All materials are included, and the many necessary tools will be at your disposal.
Tea/coffee is provided. Please bring a packed lunch, and any snacks for special dietary requirements if you have them.
This workshop is intended for adult participants.
